The Sauce

How spicy is it, really?

We make four flavors so everyone at the table is covered. Mild has no pepper at all, and is great for when kids are eating or someone wants all the flavor without the heat. Regular and Vegetarian are a warm 3 out of 5, which is enough to feel but gentle enough that you keep going back for more. Spicy is a true 5 out of 5, and people underestimate it more often than you'd think. If it turns out to be more than you bargained for, mix it with a jar of Mild and you'll have something right in the middle.

Is it keto-friendly?

Yes, the sauce itself fits comfortably into a keto diet, with 3g of carbs and 1g of sugar in a 2-tablespoon serving. Simmer it with chicken, shrimp, or tofu and you have a full meal. The rice in jollof rice is another story, but that part is up to you.

How's the sodium?

It's lighter than you might expect. Each serving has 140 to 150mg depending on the flavor, which comes out to 6 or 7% of the daily value, and most jarred pasta sauces carry about three times that. You can find the full numbers under Nutrition Facts on every product page.

Is it gluten-free?

Our sauces are not gluten free. Regular, Mild, and Spicy contain wheat in the chicken base. The Vegetarian doesn't have any wheat ingredients, but it's made in a facility that processes wheat, so we don't call it gluten-free. The full ingredient list for every jar is on its product page.

Is the Vegetarian vegan?

It's vegetarian but not vegan. There's no meat in it, and it's made with vegetable stock, but we don't certify it as vegan.

Halal? Kosher? Organic?

Our chicken base isn't halal or kosher certified, and the sauce isn't certified organic or non-GMO. If any of that ever changes, we'll be sure to let you know.

How long does a jar last?

Unopened jars are happy in the pantry for about two years, and the exact date is printed on your jar. Once you open it, keep it in the fridge and use it within 7 days. If you have leftovers past that, freeze them, because that's what we do at home too.

Cooking With It

What can I put it on?

Our favorite question, because this is where you can get creative! Use it anywhere you'd use a tomato sauce: jollof rice, pasta, pizza, simmered chicken or shrimp, stews, eggs, as a base for 15 minute butter chicken, or as a dipping sauce for anything fried. Our recipes page is full of ideas whenever you need a little inspiration.

How much rice per jar?

Three cups of rice to one jar is how we make it at home. If you want it saucier, use a little less rice or add an extra half jar.

What pan should I bake it in?

A 9x13 glass baking dish works beautifully, and a foil pan or ceramic dish is just fine too. Keep it shallow, around 2 inches deep, because the rice won't cook evenly in a deep pan. Bake at 350°F and fluff it every 20 to 30 minutes until the rice is tender.

My jollof isn't turning out right

Don't worry, it's fixable! If the rice is too hard, add more chicken broth and let it cook a little longer while fluffing with a fork every 20-30 minutes. If it came out too saucy, use more rice next time, and if it's not saucy enough, add another half jar or cut back on the rice. Jollof takes a little patience, but it's worth it every time.

Orders & Shipping

When will my order ship?

We typically ship within 2 to 4 days, and it can take a little longer around the holidays when everyone wants jollof for the family gathering. Right now we ship anywhere in the US, including apartments, college dorms, and P.O. boxes, but we aren't able to ship to the outlying islands or internationally yet.

Can I change my order after placing it?

Because we process orders as quickly as we can, we aren't able to make changes once an order is placed, and that includes the shipping address. Please double check everything before you place your order, especially where it's headed.

Tracking says delivered, but no package

We know how frustrating that is, and in our experience USPS tracking can get ahead of itself. Here's what usually solves it:

1. Ask your neighbors, because packages end up next door more often than you'd think.
2. Call your local post office with your tracking number, since your package could be waiting there.
3. Give it a few days, because another delivery attempt often follows.
4. If it still hasn't turned up, email us at anitao@ezesauces.com and we'll help you track it down.

My jar arrived broken

We pack every jar as carefully as we can, but glass and shipping don't always get along. If your jar arrives broken, email a photo to anitao@ezesauces.com and we'll replace it for free.

What's your return policy?

You have 14 days from delivery to request a return on unopened jars in their original condition. Email anitao@ezesauces.com to get started and we'll send you instructions. We can't accept returns on opened jars, but if anything is wrong with your order, whether it's damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, tell us right away and we'll make it right. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 10 business days.

Can I mix and match flavors in a pack?

Yes! If you order a 2-pack, just leave a note at checkout telling us which two flavors you'd like, and we'll pack them up for you.

Do you gift wrap?

Not at the moment. But if it's a special occasion and you'd like Ezé to be part of the memory, email us at anitao@ezesauces.com and we'll see what we can do together.

Can I find Ezé in stores?

Yes, and the list keeps growing. Use the store locator on any product page to find shelves near you, from Ohio to Chicago to Atlanta to Tampa and beyond.

Do you do subscriptions?

Not yet, but it's coming soon. If you'd like jars on repeat in the meantime, email us at anitao@ezesauces.com and we'll set it up for you personally.

Wholesale & Catering

Can I buy in bulk or by the gallon?

Absolutely. We offer cases of jars and one-gallon jars for grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and anyone who goes through that much Ezé at home. Fill out the wholesale form on our contact page and we'll put together a quote for you. Large orders need some lead time, so please reach out early.

Do you cater?

If you're around Miamisburg or Dayton, Ohio, we'd love to. We make real jollof rice with Ezé and cook it for parties, cookouts, office lunches, and family gatherings. Catering takes some lead time, so please email anitao@ezesauces.com early and tell us about your event.

Can Ezé vend at my event?

We would love to! We do demos at Jungle Jim's, sell at Findlay Market, and set up at festivals and community events with jollof and other authentic African dishes. If your event needs vendors, email anitao@ezesauces.com with the date and details, and we'll take it from there.

Nothing matches that search. Try a different word, or just ask us directly, we're happy to help.
